KS CCH (Concealed-Carry Handgun) Information
SPECIAL NOTE FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY HAVE A KS CCH LICENSE:
Kansas legislators constantly "tweak" our laws, and they made several
changes to the KS CCH law that went into effect on 1 July 2009. As a
CCH licensee, you need to know the current law, not just what the law
was when you were trained, so you should read the
KSAG's summary of the 2009 amendments to the Personal &
Family Protection Act.
EVERYONE ELSE:
I am NOT a lawyer, and NOTHING on this site should be used as legal advice!
If you need legal advice, you should consult a lawyer of your choice.
Kansans have a "shall-issue" right to carry a concealed handgun!
If you are thinking about taking a CCH course, you can:
- Read why
HAVING a CONCEALED-CARRY LICENSE is important,
read Kansas'
"your home is your castle" & "no duty to retreat" law,
and
read this
Wikipedia article about such laws.
- Read the requirements for getting a Kansas
CCH license straight from the
KSAG's
Concealed-Carry Handgun Law brochure,
read how the KS CCH law is interpreted for
ACTIVE MILITARY PERSONNEL.
read
things that can keep you from getting a CCH license.
I use the
TQ-15 target,
on which the acceptable-hit zone (the inner "square") is 9.5 inches wide
and 10.5 inches high.
(The
IALEFI-Q target,
with a 10-inch diameter acceptable-hit zone, is also acceptable under
the KS CCH rules.)
If you are relatively new to shooting (maybe your significant-other just
gave you a new pistol?),
or if you are afraid you might not be able to meet the CCH
shooting-qualification requirements
of 18 "hits" on a target which is a little larger than the average
picnic paper plate after shooting:
5 shots one-hand at 3 yards,
10 shots two-hand at 7 yards, and
10 shots two-hand at 10 yards,
then read about my
"First Steps Pistol" course.
- Read the Kansas Attorney General's list of
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
- Read the
OBJECTIVES and the
SAFETY RULES for the Kansas CCH Course.
According to the KSAG's November statistics, 24,633 applicants have
been certified by 433 Instructors, for an average of just under
57 trainees per instructor, whereas (and for what it's worth),
I have certified 149! If you are considering taking
MY CCH course, you should:
- Learn how I
ORGANIZE and SCHEDULE classes and
WHAT A CCH LICENSE COSTS!
- Read the
OUTLINE of my course and my
WAIVER of LIABLILTY.
- Download and print the
REQUIRED MATERIAL the KSAG says you must have in class.
- My next class is scheduled for the consecutive Saturday evenings
(6-9:45pm) of 12 & 19 December (with daytime range times
scheduled individually any time after the first session), and
if you are on my email-notification list, you should already have
received an invitation to attend that class. (If you are
not on my list, then see the next paragraph!)
- If you'd like to take one of my classes, complete this
application form and "click" the "submit" button at
the bottom of the form. This does not commit you
to anything, but it does:
- Get your name on my list so I can notify you about upcoming
class(es).
- Help me determine the apparent "need" or "demand" for more
CCH class(es).
- Tell me what day(s) and time(s) of day for a class
best fit your schedule.
- Give me telephone number(s) to call if a class session
must be cancelled.
(This has NOT happened yet, but
there may come a time!)
- Give me an emergency contact in case you have a
medical problem during class.
(Neither has this!)
- Tell me about your firearm knowledge, experience,
and shooting ability so I can
"customize" classes (within the KSAG's rules, of course)
toward your specific needs.
NOTE: Completing this application is the only way to
join one of my CCH classes, and if your spouse or friend(s) also want
to take a class, either with you or elsewhen, she/he/they need to
submit individual application(s) so I can stay within the
above-mentioned KSAG rules for customizing my classes.
- If you live too far from Manhattan, KS, to take one of my classes, this
KSAG Certified-Instructor list gives the contact
information for other Kansas CCH instructors. I know the
following personally and highly recommend them:
- Visit
http://people.cis.ksu.edu/~mcalhoun/Texas.wmv
to watch a hilarious 24-second (1.15 MB) CCH-related video titled
"How do you know you're shopping in Texas?"
- To read still more about concealed carry, visit these
OTHER CCH-RELATED WEBSITES.
- Take these
final steps after you have completed a training course
and have received your "Certificate of Completion".
If you still have questions about the CCH license, the licensing
process, or anything else, just ask:
My email address is mcalhoun AT sdf DOT lonestar DOT org
(with the obvious substitutions for AT and DOT).
Please include "CCH" in the subject line so my anti-spam filters will
pass your email through to me, and if you write and don't hear back from
me within a few days, please CALL me at 785-539-4448
(Manhattan, KS).
If your Internet Service Provider or email software filters incoming
"junk" or "spam" email, to ensure that my emails are delivered to your
"inbox", please put my email address in your "Safe Senders" or "Friends"
list, or, since the subject line of EVERY email from me to you will
contain the letters "CCH", tell your email software to ACCEPT email
with "CCH" in the Subject line. Otherwise, my email to you may
appear in your "Junk" folder or even disappear altogether!-(
Likewise, if you will put "CCH" in the subject line of email you send to
me, I should receive it because my email reader flags mail with "CCH" in
the subject line as "very important" and passes it straight to me!
Depending on how you got here, to return to whatever you were doing, either
"kill" this window, use your browser's "back" button, or go directly to my
